Meet your cider making workhorse. For the ultimate apple pressing companion, no cider mill is better equipped for the task than the American Harvester cider press by Happy Valley Ranch; the “Happiest Press on Earth”. With it’s double tub construction, this is a high quality piece of engineering – art perhaps – that’s every bit as good as it looks. Perfect for large-scale cider production, orchards and as a co-owned, shared press. It is produced right here in the United States and comes with free shipping!

On a glorious afternoon, get a group of family or friends together and share the satisfaction and joy you can’t help but feel when operating this machine. The fresh, pure and intensely flavored juice that it produces it like none other, and that’s just the end result! Far more satisfying is the actual act of putting this press to use and witnessing how it performs. See the apples get effortlessly crushed to a pulp as they are dragged through the “Apple Eater” grinder, then squeezed like you never thought possible under the press. No one will be able to resist giving the pressing screw just another twist: Yes! There is more juice left!

The American Harvester cider press combines the best features of the different mills and presses that were produced during the transition into the 20th century. It’s a double-tub mill featuring a robust 4-leg construction of hard wood and plenty of cast iron, making it perfect for orchards and farmers. It commands a presence wherever it stands.

One big advantage of the American Harvester cider press is its ability to both grind and squeeze at the same time thanks to the double-tub construction. The “Apple Eater” grinder really reduces the apples to a “pulp like” consistency, allowing for an easier and more efficient “press”. This simultaneous grinding and pressing ability really comes into its own when you have a large amount of apples to get through.

The American Harvester cider press is arguably one of the best presses on the market for producing the most cider from the least amount of apples, and in the shortest amount of time! As an expectation, our experience shows that two people working at a comfortable pace can easily produce 50 gallons of cider in one afternoon.

Worth Noting: The American Harvester cider press grinder unit comprises of the “Apple Eater” grinder, which grinds whole apples with ease. There’s no need to slice or push them down! This can be further enhanced with a motor kit (sold separately).

Warranty Information

*One Year Warranty*: The American Harvester comes with a 1 year warranty from the date of your purchase. If anything requires to be replaced or repaired, the Manufacturer, Happy Valley Ranch cider presses promises to do so free of charge, or a refund may be offered, less return freight costs.

Technical Specifications

Overall Press Dimensions and Weight: 31W x 36L x 40H (inches), 180 lbs

Frame: The 4 leg construction consists of hard maple, with all joints being dadoed and cross-bolted for extra structural rigidity.

Wood Finish: Please Note: ALL PRESSES COME UNFINISHED! You’ll want to protect it with varnish, lacquer, Poxy Coating or EZ-DO Polyurethane Gel.

Screw: The Acme-threaded press screw measures 1 1/2″ in diameter, 22″ long, and passes through a heavy cast iron cross arm. Pressure is applied to a reinforced pressing-disc which fits inside the tub. A cast iron foot is attached to the bottom of the screw to distribute the pressure on the pressing-disc. We recommend that a small amount of lubricant is applied to the screw as well as the inside the pressure foot. See our Petrol-Gel Lubricant.

Tubs: The two tubs consist of hardwood and have bevelled staves for easy cleaning. They measure 12” high by 13 ½” in diameter and are banded with heavy steel hoops. The capacity of each tub is about the same as a box of “pulped” apples. 2 juice ranks are also included.

Grinder: The “Apple Eater” press grinder consists of a 5 1/2″ diameter hard maple cylinder featuring 8 serrated stainless steel knives, and is encased by a specially designed cast iron grinding box. An 18 lb. cast iron flywheel is mounted to the grinding shaft, allowing for smooth, fast and easy operation.

Very happy with the product but when it was ordered, it was stated that I would get it in 3 weeks and didn't get it for about 6 weeks.

Haven’t used it yet, due to supply chain issues it unfortunately showed up well after harvest. It’s very sturdy and can’t wait to give it a challenge. Importantly, I want to see how much crossfit I’ll need to crank out my apples with the manual wheel. At 58 years old, I need to make decision whether to buy the available motor! Also, as a suggestion to the company, it would save a lot of time if you had a choice of it showing up already appropriately coated so you can use it right out of the box. After coating it, you need to let it dry and then following day put it together. Had to leave town on business and haven’t had chance to use it. I certainly would have paid extra money to have it arrive already coated. I have bees and all my hives when ordered give you that option but I pay more. Anyhow, excited about the design and quality build. Heavy duty! Can’t wait!!

Review

The finished product of the cider press is great, but I have some serious complaints.
1) Before I ordered it, I had some questions on some extra parts that I wanted to order, and your website was not very clear on it, and I really wanted to dial a number, and have a nice person say “Hello, how can I help?”. But apparently you have no interest in talking to any customers, as there is not a phone number listed anywhere on your website nor online. There are a lot of us who still like to talk to a person, and not always be pushed “…to the web…”, very frustrating!
2) At least for me, the directions were virtually useless, I’m pretty handy, and the pictures helped, but I lost what little religion I had putting the thing together. Even while it is now all put together and working, the fancy cover for the electric motor I have no idea how it mounts, so I’m just going to leave it off.
3). I was stunned to see that it is left to the customer to “seal” the wood components. It is super tedious trying to get the product in between all of the slats and parts. To get anything close to a decent job of this, this sealing process should have been done prior to any of the wood parts being assembled, because it is impossible to get the product under the steel parts holding the slats together. The customer should not have to do this!
4) Probably the most frustrating thing was that when I got it all assembled, the motor/grinder was running the wrong way, so that the apples would just sit there and spin. I had to then remove the grinder from the press, then disassemble the entire grinder, and reverse the rod, then re-assemble the whole thing. There ought to be at least a little bit of quality control when the grinders are put together to assure the doesn’t happen.

Hello Brent,

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback and will certainly take your comments on board.

We currently only offer email support as a way to keep costs down but we are very much here to help. We hope to introduce phone support in the future.

Regarding the issue with the grinder and motor, we are very sorry about that. That issue is not common at all. We would address this for you if you notified us but I am happy to hear that you resolved the issue yourself. We are very sorry for the inconvenience.

We are very appreciative of your business and, as I say, we will be taking all your comments on board.

A star is born!

I assembled this gorgeous press myself and used it right away... and was amazed at how much easier this gear is than my former arrangement!! I have been elevated and I am so happy! Thank You to everyone there especially Kerry who very promptly and kindly Fedexed the F5 part to replace the wrong part in my kit! Thanks for making and supporting these great presses! Praise the apples from heaven!

Very good Press!

The Cider press is very good, only the skids/lower supports are a bit weak, they separated the first time I used them, the hardware is inferior, I broke five bolts and two screws assembling the press and one more lag screw when I first used the unit. The remainder of the press is far superior to any thing I expected, and works like a dream. I would suggest you drill a detent for the flywheel set screw to secure it to the shaft, as it does slip on the maiden voyage.
